BrooklynCastle250.jpgThe team at Brooklyn Castle said they'd be getting the word out on the importance of chess in the schools and if this week is any indication, they are certainly doing that. Director Katie Dellamaggiore along with IS 318's John Galvin and Elizabeth Spiegel and the former 318 students featured in the film, Pobo Efekoro, Alexis Parades, Rochelle Ballantyne, Patrick Johnston and National Master Justus Williams have been making appearances and speaking to press including CBS2 and Fox5 television in New York and other major New York outlets such as a feature story in the Sunday NY Daily News along with a great review, the Greenpoint Gazette, which ran a feature story and a Q&A with Katie and Time Out New York

National attention includes a write up in the November issues of Sports Illustrated, O Magazine (in editor Gayle King's column), Vibe, Essence MagazineEntertainment Weekly, Dylan McClain's column in the New York Times/International Herald, American Teacher Magazine and even Costco Connection which goes to over 8.5 million members.

To give just a sample taste of the coverage Salon.com went live today with a post that read in part: "If you want reassurance that not everything about American public education is hopelessly broken - and if you want to see what may well be the most optimistic, inspiring and downright thrilling movie released all year - then absolutely do not miss Katie Dellamaggiore's documentary "Brooklyn Castle.""

The Brooklyn Castle/PDA team says they are only getting started with more stories in the works both nationally and in cities across the US as the film opens in different markets. Tickets are now on sale in Los Angeles as well as New York City and more cities go on sale soon.

Visit the film's website for details. And if you are in New York City, don't forget USCF has made special arrangements to have a Sneak Peek screening the night before the film opens to the general public. This screening will take place THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18 AT 7 PM at The Walter Reade Theater in Lincoln Center, 70 Lincoln Center Plaza, New York 10023.
