World Championship challenger Magnus Carlsen was named one of the most
influential people of 2013 by TIME Magazine. Also on the 100 person list were president Barack Obama, writer and actress Lena Dunham, director Steven Spielberg and actress Jennifer Lawrence. Magnus was characterized as a "Titan" alongside Jay Z and Michael Kors. Former World Champion and human rights advocate Garry Kasparov wrote the piece on Carlsen. "His intuitive style conserves the mystique of chess at a time when every CPU-enhanced fan thinks the game is easy. Carlsen is as charismatic and independent as he is talented. If he can rekindle the world’s fascination with the royal game, we will soon be living in the Carlsen Era." Carlsen also had an in-depth interview on Charlie Rose on the nature of chess talent and his upcoming match against Vishy Anand. Watch the full 26-minute video here. |
