Others tied for first included GMs Alexander Ipatov, Yury Shulman, Mackenzie Molner, Anton Kovalyov, Aleksandr Lenderman and Eugene Perelshteyn. Here's a victory by Matamoros over GM Kekelidze: 7055 Bryan G. Smith earned his third GM norm in the event, finishing with 6/9 (check out his FIDE graph here, showing a peak rating of 2503). He won a key game with black over GM Timur Gareev. 7054 Gareev, one of the highest rated GMs in the USA, was recently featured in the Chicago Tribune for his continued blindfold chess tour. ![]()
