LUBBOCK,
TEXAS - Texas Tech University seeks a Director for its nationally recognized
chess program.
The Director's areas of oversight will include administrative and business
operations, financial management, outreach and recruitment planning,
marketing and communications, human resources, student development in
competitive collegiate chess, and program development. The Director will be
responsible for existing programs and initiatives. The Director will be
expected to introduce new efforts that further develop chess as a vehicle for
academic excellence and participation in higher education. Applicants should
be knowledgeable about and well connected in the world of tournament chess.
Texas Tech Chess program conducts a wide range of outreach activities
nationally and locally. Its competitive teams have garnered significant
honors, qualifying for the Final Four of College Chess for two years in a
row. Since the start of the program in
2007, Knight Raider chess teams have won two national championships and numerous
national, state and regional titles. The program prepares chess tests for the
University Interscholastic League A+ Academics program, an elementary and
middle school competition popular throughout Texas.
