The Foxwoods Open (April 4-8, Mashantucket CT) kicked off last night. One exciting feature of the event is the participation of both Hikaru Nakamura and Gata Kamsky. Gata outrated Hikaru for most of the past year, but Hikaru's been on a roll lately, and he surpassed Gata by three points on the April list, allowing him to play board one in Foxwoods. No doubt, Gata is anxious to reclaim the top spot, possibly in this tournament.
Nakamura began 2-0, including the following victory over IM Michael Mulyar:
629
Gata started off with 1.5/2, ceding a draw by perpetual in round 2 against IM Justin Sarkar.
632
The biggest upset so far was Marco Milayabas' (2340) quick and convincing victory over Grandmaster Alexander Goldin:
630
Goldin resigned because he has no useful moves to prevent the crushing Rg-e3.
