College Chess League (January-March, Internet Chess Club), University of
Texas at Dallas's "A" and "B" teams are set to face off in the last round. Both UTD teams are 4-0, ahead of the rest of the 22-team field by a full point. UTD chess director James Stallings is obviously pleased with this result, and said: "I suppose that US Chess League fans would refer to this as
Dallas Destiny ." The ICC based league is a great warm-up for the Final Four of College Chess, scheduled for University of Baltimore County (April 5-6) . The final four teams (UTD, UMBC, New York University and Miami Dade College) were determined by the Pan-American Championships. UTD's "B" team in the College Chess League is led by GM Magesh Pachanathan. In the following game, Magesh dispatches University of Texas at Brownsville freshman Axel Bachmann. 18-year-old Axel was born in Paraguay, and moved to the U.S. to attend UTB, where he studies international business. 1662 Here, UTD student IM Davorin Kuljasevic wins a nice attacking game against GM Pavel Blehm of UMBC 1661 In the same match, UMBC evened the score with GM Timur Gareev's win with Black against IM Drasko Boskovic. 1663 GM Alejandro Ramirez drew against GM Sergey Erenburg on board, so the result was left to the board four face-off between Keaton Kiewra and Ian Harris. 1660 Jim Stallings, chair of the College Chess League told CLO: "This would not be possible without the countless volunteer hours put in by Webmaster Gregory Alexander and Tournament Director Jon Haskel. They are the ones who before, during, and after the rounds that make every thing possible." Watch the final four of College Chess Live on ICC or monroi.com. |
