World Chess Live (WCL) has agreed to sponsor the US Chess Federation’s year-long Grand Prix program for 2008.  The Grand Prix is a series of designated tournaments designed to improve playing conditions and activity for the top players in the country.

Grand Prix points are earned at various levels, depending on the amount of prize money advertised in qualified events.  At the end of 2008, WCL will provide an additional $20,000 in cash, merchandise, and World Chess Live subscriptions, to the top Grand Prix point winners.

WCL is a new family-oriented online chess service from the Internet Chess Club, providing play between its members from the comfort of their own homes.  WCL will organize weekly and monthly events, offering additional Grand Prix points in the monthly competitions.

WCL will also sponsor the fledgling Junior Grand Prix program (JGP), offering an additional $7,500 in cash, merchandise, WCL subscriptions, and USCF memberships.  JGP points may also be earned in the weekly WCL events as well as in the monthly WCL events.

Additionally, the winners of the monthly WCL events, the 2008 GP winner and the 2008 JGP winner, will be invited to play in the WCL Blitz Championship, to be held at the 2009 US Open.

The US Chess Federation (USCF) began the Grand Prix program in 1979 with sponsorship from Church’s Fried Chicken.  For additional details about the Grand Prix and Junior Grand Prix, contact the USCF at 931-787-1234 or by going online at www.uschess.org .  For more information about WCL, visit www.worldchesslive.com .
