The New Jersey Futurity (Branchburg, NJ, July 7-11), sponsored by the New Jersey State Chess Federation and Michael Khodarkovsky's International Chess School and hosted by Dean of Chess Academy began immediately after the World Open. The 10-player round robin features defending champ GM Sergey Erenburg and young local talents Evan Ju and Mackenzie Molner. Watch live games on the NJSCF homepage and read more details on the blog of the U.S. Chess League team, the New Jersey Knockouts.  Mackenzie Molner may still be disappointed by losing the clutch game in the Under 2400 section at the World Open, but he isn't showing it over the board: In the first round, Mackenzie defeated IM Mikhail Zlotnikov in an 80-move game.

 In the only GM-GM battle of the round, Ehlvest beat Palatnik in a typical isolated Queen pawn position. Other favorites, GM Yudasin and Erenburg also won.
