IM Michael Mulyar advanced to a perfect 5-0 in the traditional schedule of the U.S. Open in Indianapolis, Indiana, while stars such as Women's World Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk and American GMs Shabalov, Becerra, Kraai and Kudrin join the six and four-day schedules.

Mulyar's crucial fifth round win over another Michael, FM Langer looked like it might be a violent Sicilian victory, but in the end it was an endgame grind where Mulyar's two rooks and queenside pawn majority proved way too strong for one rook and two knights.
