Knights Capture US Chess League Championship! |
December 8, 2009 | |
In a nail-biter that went past 1 AM, the New York Knights defeated the
Miami Sharks in a blitz playoff to capture the 2009 US Chess League
title! Almost every game in the match had one major swing, and the
final 2-2 result reflected much fighting chess. Fans were pleased to
see the tied match, cause that meant the Championship final went into a
blitz playoff. The survivor blitz playoff starts off with boards four
facing off. Every time a player loses or draws, he or she is
eliminated. In the end, it came down to the top two boards, GM Julio
Becerra and GM Giorgi Kacheishvili. In a classic Sicilian contest,
White's attack burned out just as Black's was firing up. 3865 Check the USCL website for details , all the games and look for more analysis on CLO soon, including thoughts and photos from Knights manager IM Irina Krush. |
