National K-12 Championships Start on Friday Print E-mail

rosenorlandoled.gifNearly 1500 players have already registered for the last National Scholastic event of the year - the K-12   Grade Championships.  Students will compete for National individual and team titles in 13 different sections, as well as for over 300 trophies!    

The event will be held at the luxurious facilities of the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Florida.  In addition to the main event, there will be Blitz and Bughouse Championships on Thursday where more titles and trophies will be earned!

On Friday, 6-time U.S. Women's Champion GM Irina Krush will do a 30-board simul as well as a take-on-all-comers blitz.  

On Saturday, she will give a lecture followed by a Question-and-Answer session.  

On Sunday, the live transmission of the Play Magnus and Chess.com simul of World Champion Magnus Carlsen will be shown on a screen, with commentary from GM Krush and IM Danny Rensch.  

Participants of the K-12 will have the opportunity to submit questions to GM Carlsen, and IM Rensch will select two of those questions to be asked to the World Champion.   Players entered in the K-12 will also have the opportunity to win two lap-tops donated by the Internet Chess Club (ICC).
