Bobby Fischer Against the World is not the only mainstream chess story this week. IS 318 student James Black Jr. was featured in an NPR video and a New York Daily News story today. 12-year-old Black is just seven points away from the National Master title. In the NY Daily News, he reveals his ultimate goal- to become the youngest ever Grandmaster. His coach Elizabeth Vicary is also quoted in the story, "He's got enormous potential and is one of the smartest people I've ever met." Black recently tied for first (first place trophy on tiebreak) in the K-8 Championship in Columbus, leading his team to victory. Video below, full Daily news story here. |
