Valentine’s Day was a nostalgic occasion at USCF headquarters as we celebrated the two longest term USCF employees – Joan Dubois with 42 years of service and Judy Misner with 41 years of service. The party took place on February 14th, also the seventh anniversary of the opening of the Crossville office. Executive Director, Bill Hall, commented on the momentous occasion and presented anniversary gifts to the honorees. Conversations quickly turned to fond memories of old co-workers. Among the tales were a few comical situations for Joan Dubois, who is also the director of Correspondence chess. One CC player enjoyed talking about fishing, so sent Joan an envelope full of rubber worms as an unexpected gift. Another sent in patches of hair he had pulled out in frustration while waiting for an opponent’s move. They also reminisced over meetings with celebrities from working with Jane Fonda and Ron Howard to visits from Bobby Fischer, who was too shy to speak to the "girls" in the office. Friends and family joined the Staff to extend their congratulations, and of course to eat a red and white cake. |
