Sarah and Daniel both won their tenth round games with White. Daniel was clearly determined to win his game. On move 33 he managed to open up the game. Instantly, his opponent made an error with 34...Rd7, fatally abandoning his back rank. 1406 The most impressive part of Sarah's win was her relentless fighting spirit. After over 50 moves, she capitalized on her opponent's first major error of the game: ![]()
Position after 54. Bd5
After 54...Kh7?, Sarah played 55.Bf7!, when Black cannot defend the h-pawn with Be2 because Kb1 then forces the win of the a-pawn. Here is the full game: 1405 Tomorrow Daniel and Sarah both play with Black on board 2 in their respective sections. The other 8.5 in the Boys Under 12, Ilya Nzyzhnyk from Ukraine plays on board one against. At the moment, Daniel has better tiebreaks than Ilya so he will likely take the title if they both win. According to FIDE.com, the tiebreak used in the case of a tournament with some rated players and some unrated, is cummulative, so it's not possible for Ilya to catch up in the final round if they end tied for first. Meanwhile, Sarah plays against Ting Jie Lie while her Russian nemesis, Anna Styazhkina plays Sarah's previous victim, Judyta Lachowitz from Poland. Sarah's tiebreaks are worse than Anna's, so she will have to finish with more points to earn gold.
