GM Alexander Shabalov emphasizes that having fun at the SuperNationals should be a priority.
Shabalov has never been to Nashville and looks forward to the headline scholastic event. He told Chess Life Online that participants should finish their schoolwork before arriving to Nashville, "so it won't bother you during the tournament. Don't even think about taking textbooks with you." Shabalov also advised players to cut down on internet blitz before and during the tournament, and to solve tactical problems instead. At the tournament he said that players should relax and enjoy themselves between rounds. For instance, he recommends to SuperNationals participants, "Go to the pool twice as often as normal." With all the stars confirmed to appear in Nashville, it is not surprising that Shabalov also emphasizes the importance of getting the most out of the SuperNationals, regardless of your final result. "There are only a few people who will be 'pressured' win all their games, and you're probably not one of them. So, relax, plug in your favorite music and do your best."
