In round five of the Amber Chess Tournament (March 14-26, Nice, France), Gata Kamsky climbed to the top of the rapids (along with Levon Aronian) with a 96-move win over Peter Leko in the Deferred Exchange Ruy Lopez.

Gata clarified his advantage with 37.d6, but for many moves after this, it didn't look like he was getting anywhere.  Defense became even more difficult for Leko after 63.h5 as suddenly Qe6 could be met by Rg6. Under time and positional pressure, Leko grabbed two pawns for a piece but was clearly lost soon thereafter.

The Kamsky-Leko blindfold game was a solid draw.

Tomorrow, Friday March 20, Kamsky faces Kramnik at 9:30 AM EST (blindfold) and 12:45 EST (rapid). Check the full schedule and results on the official website.
