The legendary Danish Grandmaster Bent Larsen (1935-2010) died in Buenos Aires, Argentina at 75 years old on September 9, 2010. Larsen was a six-time Danish chess champion and a four-time World Championship candidate. He championed unorthodox openings such as his namesake Larsen Opening (1.b3). He was also known for his unique style and chess writings. "I can never get mated with a knight on f8", he famously wrote. In the following game against Bobby Fischer, Larsen counterattacking prowess came to the fore. |
