On Saturday, April 12th, 2014, a friendly international match took place between The University of Texas at Brownsville (USA) and The University of Warsaw (Poland). UTB players defeated their Polish colleagues 23.5 - 12.5.

IM Max Cornejo scored 5.5 points out of 6 possible, GM Anton Kovalyov 5.0, GM Holden Hernandez and WGM Katerina Nemcova 3.5, whereas WIM Aura Salazar and Simon Vasquez III 3.0.

The best UW player, IM Arkadiusz Leniart, scored 4.5 points.

The match was prepared, and supervised by the UTB Coach GM Bartek Macieja with a warm support of UW representatives. IM Arkadiusz Leniart acted as the UW captain.

The match ran smoothly on the Internet Chess Club (ICC) and played in a friendly atmosphere. Thanks to two laptops on both continents and high-class Internet cameras the players could see each other all the time.

"I would like to thank you for bringing the idea of the match. We should definitely play a revenge in the fall." said IM Arkadiusz Leniart.

"That was a great event. We really enjoyed it." said WIM Aura Salazar, UTB Outstanding International Female Student.

"Coach, why don't you organize another match next week?" asked WGM Katerina Nemcova, who is preparing for her first U.S. Women's Championship in May.
