World Cup Round 2, Game 1: Kamsky Wins, Onischuk Falters |
November 24, 2009 | |
In the second round of the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, the four remaining members of our American squad had two decisive
results. Gata Kamsky won with Black over Zhou Weiqi of China, who beat Kamsky's trainer last round, GM Emil Sutovsky. 3774 Alexander Onischuk lost a short and brutal game to Arkadij Naiditsch. In the final position he resigned because Nxf5 and Bxf7 are both crushing threats. He'll take a stab tomorrow with the white pieces. 3775 Alexander Shabalov drew against David Navara and Varuzhan Akobian against Ruslan Ponomariov. Although both drew with White, this will give both a chance to catch a breath after last night's marathon tiebreak match. 3776 3777 See the official website, chessdom.com and the Internet Chess Club for live coverage.
