In the World Cup round two tiebreaks, two American players, GMs Alexander Shabalov and Varuzhan Akobian were eliminated in the rapids.  But neither went down without a fight. Here are two of the games that sent our contenders packing.

That means defending World Cup champion Gata Kamsky is the sole remaining American.  Good luck to Gata in round three, where he will face Wesley So of the Phillipines. Follow it live on the official website, chessdom.com and the Internet Chess Club starting at 3 PM local/5 AM EST.
