USA Takes Silver at World Team!! |
January 13, 2010 | |
The US team earned silver medals at the World Team Championship in Bursa, Turkey! Nakamura and Onischuk earned gold medals for boards one and two! Russia took gold and defeated Israel in the last round, while India won bronze with a final round victory over Brazil. Captain IM John Donaldson said, "This was a tough tournament and our team showed a lot of heart throughout. Losing to Armenia in a very close match in the next to last round was rough but we kept our cool and got the job done today." Indeed a 2-2 tie against Azerbaijan was enough to clinch silver for the USA (A match win would still net the US silver). 4033 4034 4035 4036 For daily game analysis, see Ben's Blog on the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis website.
