Results of Day 3Absolute ChampionshipThe players have been divided into 2 groups of 8. Each group will play a round robin of 7 games. The top two scorers from each group will advance to the SemiFinals. This day saw the third game of the Preliminaries. In Group A, Christiansen drew with Shabalov. Gulko drew with Yermolinsky. Kudrin defeated Fedorowicz. (See the Commentary Section for the archive of the Christiansen - Shabalov game.) In Group B, Benjamin defeated Finegold with the black pieces, while Kaidanov defeated Serper with the White. de Firmian and Seirawan drew. Gurevich and Shliperman also drew, giving the Junior Champion his third draw of the event, an excellent result considering the disparity in ratings with the rest of the field. (See the Commentary Section for the archive of the Finegold - Benjamin game.) Women's Championship: The two leaders let the pack catch up as Epstein defeated Marinello and Frenklakh defeated Sagalchik. Khan lost to Belakovskaia on time, moving Belakovskaia into first position. Airapetian drew with Groberman. Shahade had another good round as she defeated Burton. CrosstablesAbsolute Championship in Two Preliminary GroupsThis event is the Absolute championship, and is open to all players without restriction on geography, age, or gender. Players are invited based on rating or performance in specific events like the US Junior Championship. Players are divided into two groups, and play a preliminary round robin. The two top-scoring players from each group go on to the SemiFinals. The eventual winner earns the title of 1999 US Champion. Ratings shown below are from the July 1999 FIDE list.
