ResultsAbsolute Championships, Day 4The players have been divided into 2 groups of 8. Each group will play a round robin of 7 games. The top two scorers from each group will advance to the SemiFinals. This day saw the fourth game of the Preliminaries. In Group A, Christiansen lost to Yermolinsky, leaving both with 2.5. Gulko defeated Fedorowicz to also move up to the top group. 1998 Junior Champion IM Shliperman defeated GM Kudrin in an upset, so the 20 year old also joins the leaders. Gurevich and Shabalov drew. (See the Commentary Section for the archive of the Shliperman - Kudrin game.) In Group B, the leader also fell as Ivanov lost to Seirawan. Benjamin defeated Kaidanov. Serper - de Firmian and Dzindzichashvili - Finegold were drawn. (See the Commentary Section for the archive of the Dzindzichashvili - Finegold game.) Women's Championships, Day 5Sagalchik scored a full point again, this time against Groberman. Belakovskaia also scored a full point against Marinello, so Belakovskaia and Sagalchik are back at the top of the section with 4.0 each. Epstein defeated Burtman and Frenklakh defeated Shahade. The Khan Arapetian game was drawn.CrosstablesAbsolute Championship in Two Preliminary GroupsThis event is the Absolute championship, and is open to all players without restriction on geography, age, or gender. Players are invited based on rating or performance in specific events like the US Junior Championship. Players are divided into two groups, and play a preliminary round robin. The two top-scoring players from each group go on to the SemiFinals. The eventual winner earns the title of 1999 US Champion. Ratings shown below are from the July 1999 FIDE list. Group A

The Women's ChampionshipThis separate, gender-restricted event, is open to women only, and is intended to promote the participation of women in tournament chess. There is a single section of 10 players. The highest scoring player earns the title of "1999 US Women's Champion". Ratings shown below are from the July 1999 FIDE list.
