Players were invited based on rating or performance in specific events like the US Junior Championship. Players were divided into two groups, and played a preliminary round robin. The two top-scoring players from each group qualified for the SemiFinals. The eventual winner earns the title of 1999 US Champion. Ratings shown are from the July 1999 FIDE list. There are two SemiFinals matches. Each match will last four games. The pairings are Gulko - Seirawan and Serper - Yermolinsky. The top scorer from each match will advance to the Finals. In the second game of the Semis, Serper drew with Yermolinsky, leaving their match tied at one point each. Seirawan had the two Bishop advantage for much of his game against Gulko, then won in the endgame. That match is also tied with one win and one loss each. Games with commentary are available in the Archive section. GamescoresDuring each round, at least one game will be available live with Commentary from GM Michael Rohde. Additional Games will be available in the round's bulletin and in PGN files. The bulletin, which is prepared at the site, also includes feature commentary on the day's events.
