SemiFinals, Play-offs

US Champion Boris Gulko

This event is the Absolute championship, and is open to all players without restriction on geography, age, or gender. Players were invited based on rating or performance in specific events like the US Junior Championship. Players were divided into two groups, and played a preliminary round robin. The two top-scoring players from each group qualified for the SemiFinals. The eventual winner earns the title of 1999 US Champion. Ratings shown are from the July 1999 FIDE list.

In the third game of the Finals, Gulko played simply and solidly, earning the draw he needed to take the match and the title 2.5 - 0.5. Game with commentary is available in the Archive section.

Gamescores

During each round, the Finals game will be available live with Commentary from GM Michael Rohde. Additional information will be available in the round's bulletin and in PGN files. The bulletin, which is prepared at the site, also includes feature commentary on the day's events.

Viewing the Commentary

Up to three games each day are available in auto-play format (one diagram per move) with live commentary from GM Rohde in our Games Archives. No Java is required to view these games.
